Outlaws of Triune
Triune is a low-magic setting where the supernatural does exist, but is rare, powerful, and highly feared. The residents of the Wasteland are highly superstitious, and any practitioners of magic are often shunned and persecuted. The legends say that the Ancients harnessed magic and performed wondrous feats, but they were arrogant and the power eventually consumed them leaving only the Wasteland and the Veil behind. The Veil completely encompasses the Wasteland, and appears as a shimmering semi-transparent black curtain, like darkened heat waves rising from the earth. Little is known about the Veil except that entering it is pretty much a death wish. There are several points where the Veil is thin and can be safely travelled, but these are heavily guarded Alliance checkpoints.
Since the fall of the Ancients, the Alliance has championed the anti-magic cause and routinely tried to stamp out its practice in Triune to avoid a second cataclysm. This action was carried out by the Templars, a special order of Alliance soldiers tasked with eradicating magic in its every form, during a decades long war called the Scouring. At that time thousands of cults and demons were slaughtered, as well as numerous peaceful magic-users who refused to be Cleansed of their powers, and centuries of history and precious artifacts were also destroyed in the process. Each person has their own view on the Scouring, but today Triune remains mostly magic-free. The Templars still exist, though in much smaller capacity, and function primarily to hunt down rogue magic-users and quell the occasional demon outbreak.
