Character Creation

A character in this game will be created like any other Risus character (see Risus p.1) with a few exceptions. First, each character must have one and only one race cliché (even halfbreeds). This cliché represents the character’s origin, inborn abilities, and cultural heritage, and it may also be combined with personality type. Players may then assign additional professional clichés to their character, and divide the standard 10 dice among them. Certain races and magical clichés must be purchased at double value, according to the GM’s discretion.

A cliché’s number of dice relates to a character’s skill by the following scale:
  • 6 – Superb: A Pro, near legendary skill, nationally known
  • 5 – Great: A specialist, very talented, regionally known
  • 4 – Good: A gifted person, more skilled than usual, locally known
  • 3 – Fair: An average shmoe, neither particularly good or bad
  • 2 – Mediocre: A bumbler, lacks training or finesse, sometimes messes up simple tasks
  • 1 – Poor: A putz, possesses a slight aptitude but often fails or gets confused
  • 0 – Terrible: An idiot, possesses no skill, getting by mostly on luck
